MCS International Baccalaureate School (IB)
Welcome to Millarville Community School’s website.
Effective April of 2009, MCS became one of six public schools in Alberta (and the only one in southern Alberta) to be authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme. This was the culmination of four years of work by our teachers.
The school offers a wide range of sports activities and includes daily physical education as part of its learning programme. Outdoor Pursuits is offered to all students and takes the inside classroom to the outdoors. The school has a complement of equipment to facilitate its many activities that include tents to snowshoes. School field trips are many and varied depending on the grade level. Upper School students (grades 6-8) participate in camping excursions in the foothills and mountains to the west. Our playing fields are excellent and our relationship with the local Sports Association provides many opportunities within this community for family activities.
Millarville Community School is a progressive public school which is proud to be part of the family of Foothills School Division. Our staff consists of eleven teaching staff, a family school liaison counselor, two teaching assistants, a librarian, and an office administrator. It is noteworthy that four of our teachers have received The Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History and the principal is a recipient of the Canada’s Outstanding Principals Award. We were honoured when The Governor General spent half a day at the school in 2006 (invited by our students), on her first visit to Western Canada.
